5-MeO-DMT
A fast-acting psychedelic found in the venom of the Sonoran Desert toad and in some plants. Drug developers call it mebufotenin. Its experience lasts minutes rather than hours, which is why researchers see it as a possible depression treatment that fits into a single clinic visit.

The basics
5-MeO-DMT is a close chemical cousin of DMT, but it is a different substance with a different experience. Inhaled, its effects peak within minutes and usually fade in under half an hour. In recent trials, most people were ready to go home within one to two hours. The trials use lab-made 5-MeO-DMT, which also takes pressure off wild toad populations.
